The Medin Brothers started the Furniture and Undertaking business in Dell Rapids in the late 1800’s. They sold it to their brother-in-law, H. J. Hermanson in 1906. He ran it until 1919 when poor health forced his retirement. In 1919 his son, John returned home from W.W.I and took over the Hermanson Furniture Store and Funeral Home. He ran both businesses until 1968 when he sold them to James Kahler and his wife, Kay. The Kahler’s renamed the stores the Kahler Funeral Home and Kahler Furniture Store.
In 1996, Mark and Jenifer Kahler bought the funeral home from his parents. Mark and Jenifer continued to operate and own Kahler Funeral Home until December of 2019. Ross Brende became a member of the staff in May of 2001. Ross and Tiffany Brende became owners of the business on January 1, 2020. Ross and Tiffany renamed the funeral home Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.
